Why Is My AirPod Case Flashing Red

AirPods have always been a crowd favorite when it comes to phone gadgets. To take care of your AirPods and their case, you need to know how to spot any issues. This is why we will be answering your questions on ‘why is my AirPod case flashing red?’

An AirPod case is non-negotiable when it comes to storing your AirPods. Not only do they protect your AirPods, but you can also personalize it with a case cover from Burga, and even take it a step further by matching it to your phone case.

If you have purchased a new pair of AirPods, you may be confused when it comes to the colored lights that appear on the case. Not to worry, we are going to explain these flashes.

It is useful to understand what your AirPod case is trying to tell you so that you know what issue to fix. There are a few different colors that can show up on the case and these colors can either shine steadily or flash.

Why Is My AirPod Case Blinking Red?

The light you see flashing a color is known as the ‘status light’ on the case. This light is found either on the outside of the case or the inside when you open it up. It usually shines a single color light, but this light can flash or change color depending on the situation.

Which AirPods have the light on the outside of the case?’ First generation AirPod cases have their light on the inside of the case, while second generation and Burga cases have their light conveniently on the outside.

Red Flashing Light

The Issue

If your AirPods case is flashing a red or amber color at you, this usually means there has been some sort of error. It is nothing to stress about as it typically means there has been a pairing error and you simply need to reset your AirPods.

The Solution

To reset them, put your AirPods in the case, close the lid and wait for 30 seconds. Then open the lid without removing the AirPods. On your phone, go into ‘settings’ and then ‘Bluetooth’.

Where it says ‘devices’, click this and look for the name of your AirPods device. Click the ‘i’ button next to the device’s name and then ‘forget this device’. Click again to confirm.

Press and hold the button on the back of your AirPods case - this will fully disconnect your AirPods from all connected devices. Once you see the white light again, you will need to go through the setup wizard again to reconnect.

If this does not work for you, you may want to take it in to be checked by a specialist.

Red Light

The Issue

If you see that your AirPod case is showing a red light, this has to do with low battery. An amber or red light on the AirPods case while the AirPods are not inside the case, means that your actual case needs to be charged. You should get one more charge out of the case at this stage before your case is completely dead.

If a red or amber light comes on your AirPod case while the AirPods are inside the case, it means your actual AirPods are low battery and are busy being charged by the case. Try not to remove them until they are fully charged.

If the red or amber light comes on when your case is plugged in, this is just to signify that the case is busy charging. Leave the case plugged in until you see a green light.

The Solution

There is no actual issue with a solid red light on your AirPods case, you simply need to charge your case. If your AirPods are inside the case and the light is flashing, there is nothing you need to do as the actual AirPods are already charging.

Why Is My AirPod Charging Case Flashing Red (FAQ)

Why Is My AirPod Charging Case Orange?

what does it mean when my airpod case flashes red

We have dealt with what a red light means but what does orange mean on an AirPod case? The color may appear different on different models, but any shade of red, amber, or orange all means the same thing.

Either your case needs to be charged, charging is underway, or there has been a pairing error. This depends on whether your AirPods are inside the case or not, and whether the light is blinking or not.

What does a green light mean on the AirPods case?

You will have also seen a green light out on the front of your AirPod case or under the lid. A solid green light coming from the case when the AirPods are inside means that both the AirPods and the case are fully charged. If the AirPods are out of the case, it simply means the case itself is fully charged.

So, does the AirPod case light stay on when charging? Not quite. The status light will stay on for a few seconds only.

If a green light appears while you are charging the case, it means the case is now fully charged. You can remove the case from the charger at this point.

‘Okay, but why is my AirPods case flashing green?’ If the green light is flashing and not solid, this usually indicates another problem. Typically it indicates that one of the AirPods is not being recognized by the case.

In this case, try factory resetting your case and if that does not work, speak to the store where you got your case from. They should assist you to find the problem.

What If There Is No Colour On My AirPod Case?

If there is no light at all coming from your AirPod case, this means your case has run out of power. It will go red when the battery is low and then once the battery is finished, the light will stop shining. You should charge your case as soon as possible until the light goes green.
